I’ll start this off by saying this- I have never been a huge Chinese food fan.
Chinese was never something I really had growing up so as an adult I simply never really consider this type of food.
However, recently I got on a themed dinner kick and Chinese was one of the foods that I cooked.

And this honey orange shrimp was the perfect, healthy entree of our dinner!
This is not a recipe that I created on my own, I found this delicious recipe on a blog called Dinner Then Dessert and adjusted it to my and my families own preferences. Because I have a very weak background with Chinese food, I figured it would be best to not start playing with recipes from scratch.. yet 😉
I paired this honey orange shrimp recipe with jasmine rice and it went perfectly. You can also add a side of cream cheese wontons if you are really going for an all out Chinese theme. Otherwise, shrimp and rice is always good and super filling too!
This recipe has some kick to it, but it is not an overwhelming spicy. If you want more spicy, add more crushed red pepper flakes or add ground red pepper or chili powder to get more of a kick.

Honey Orange Shrimp
Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon Roasted Garlic
- 1 1/2 Teaspoon Soy Sauce
- 1/2 Cup Honey
- 1 Large Orange, zested
- 2 Tablespoons Orange Juice
- 1/2 Teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
- 2 Pounds Shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 1 Cup Cornstarch
- 1/2 Cup Olive Oil
- Green Onions (garnish)
- Sesame seeds (garnish)
Instructions
-
In a small bowl add garlic, soy sauce, honey, orange zest, orange juice, and crushed red pepper. Stir to combine.
-
In a large bowl, combine the shrimp and cornstarch. Coat well.
-
Heat the olive oil over medium- high heat in a large frying pan, and cook each shrimp for 2-3 minutes or until browned on each side. You can cook the shrimp in batches to speed up the process. Remove the shrimp from frying pan and put aside. I use tongs to easily grab the shrimp to flip them over.
-
Drain the remaining oil from the frying pan and add the sauce mixture back into the pan. Add the shrimp on top. Allow the sauce to thicken (will only take about 15-20 seconds). The cornstarch will make this process quick.
-
Serve immediately. Enjoy!
Other Products That I Used and Love With This Recipe:
Frying Pan: This is a amazing non-stick frying pan. Although in this recipe we needed the oil to fry the shrimp, in many other recipes you could avoid using the oil or butter to create a nonstick surface. I love my nonstick pans!
Cooking Tongs: These worked so well when flipping the shrimp! The shrimp were easy to grab and I could flip one at a time easily.
Mixing Bowls: As you know- these are my favorite mixing bowls. Easily stored, easily cleaned and microwaveable safe. What more do you need?
This honey orange shrimp is a delicious sea food recipe that has amazing Chinese flare to it! My family greatly enjoyed this recipe and has inspired us to eat Chinese more often. Yay!
This recipe pairs perfect with my Homemade Cream Cheese Wonton recipe if you are looking for a delicious themed dinner (*wink* *wink*).
