These sweet cream cheese wontons are the perfect appetizer to kick off your Chinese themed meal! This Chinese appetizer is super easy to make and only involves three ingredients! #chineseappetizer #chinesefood #wontons #creamcheesewontons

If you have read my Honey Orange Shrimp recipe, then you know that I am not a huge Chinese food fan. It wasn’t something I ate a lot of growing up, so now, it doesn’t seem like a huge deal.

However, lately I have been on a themed dinner kick and decided to try these delicious cream cheese wontons to go with my Honey Orange Shrimp or fried rice.

At first I though these sweet cream cheese wontons would be difficult, but it turns out, they aren’t! They are a little bit time consuming to fold, however there are only three ingredients that all get mixed together. Super easy!

Plus, they have powdered sugar in them, so really, how could you go wrong?

They pair perfectly with sweet and sour sauce and go great as a side dish to a main Chinese dish of your choosing (I paired them with my Honey Orange Shrimp). You can find that recipe by clicking HERE.

I found this recipe on The Cozy Cook and there is nothing that I would change about it!

Ingredients

  • 8 Ounces softened, cream cheese
  • 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 12 Ounce Wonton Wraps (found in refrigerated produce section next to tofu)
  • 1 Egg Whisked with a dash of water
  • Nonstick Cooking Spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375F. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and place the sheet in the oven for about 5 minutes. This will warm up the baking sheet to ensure the wontons get crispy on the bottom as well.

  2. Mix the powdered sugar and cream cheese together until well combined.

  3. I grabbed out one wonton wrapper at a time and left the rest covered with a damp paper towel (they dry out quickly).

  4. Fill a small bowl with water and whisked egg and set near your work station.

  5. Place about 1/2 a teaspoon of cream cheese mixture in the middle of your wonton wrapper.

  6. Dip your fingers in the water and egg mixture, and fold the wontons diagonally to form a triangle. Seal and ensure that there are no air leaks.

  7. With the longest side facing you (the base of the triangle) fold the right corner of the wonton to the left side. Then take the left side of the wonton and fold it to the right. Seal both corners to ensure there is no air leak.

  8. Then take the left side of the wonton and fold it to the right. Seal both corners to ensure there is no air leak.

  9. Repeat this process until all wontons are filled and wrapped.

  10. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and place the wontons on top. Coat the wontons with a light layer of nonstick cooking spray.

  11. The wontons will need to bake for approximately 10-12 minutes, however, it's best to start checking on them after 5 minutes. Remove them from the oven when they are crisp and golden brown.

Other Products That I Used and Loved With This Recipe:

Mixing Bowl: The smallest bowl in this set is perfect size for the egg wash and the largest bowl is perfect for the cream cheese mixture! I love that these come in several different sizes.

Baking Sheet: This baking sheet was the perfect size for all of the wontons to cook on. Plus it has a non-stick surface which makes it super easy to cook and bake with!

I would really like to hear what you all think about this sweet cream cheese wonton recipe, especially you Chinese food lovers! My family really enjoyed these wontons, however, like I said earlier, there is powdered sugar in it, so who wouldn’t enjoy it???

Happy Cooking!
