Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews | Suspense Novel

One of my all time favorite things to do in my free time is read books. Seriously, if there is one thing you need to know about me, this is it. Some of the most important information.

With that being said, my most recent read was a good one. Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews was not quite a romantic suspense but it did have a romantic spin in some parts.  But don’t worry- if you aren’t into romance, there wasn’t anything even close to what you’d find in a romance novel.

Overview | Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews

Drue Campbell is the main character who is struggling to get her life together after the loss of her mom and a bad injury. When her estranged father shows up and offers her a job working at his personal injury law firm with her ex-bestfriend-turned-most-recent-step-mother Drue has no choice but to except the job offer and move to Sunset Beach. When she starts working she stumbles upon a mysterious case that involved a murder employee at a beach resort. When Drue digs deeper she only gets more confused as to what really happened and starts digging deeper. When Drue digs deeper, what she finds only sends her deeper and deeper into confusion.

One of the things that I really enjoyed about this book was that I didn’t know who was the criminal until the very end. Something that is hard to find in a suspense book is suspense. Suspense is what makes a book good! And I can tell you, Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews definitely had suspense.

Something else I absolutely loved about this book was Drue. Her character was full of quick wit and even though she was at a low point in her life, that didn’t stop her from still getting up and making something for herself. This is something that I admire in characters, this shows their strength and you all know how much I HATE weak characters. Just sayin…

One thing that I did not like about this book was that it was a little slow in the beginning. By this I mean, it took a while to get to the mystery and main plot line of the book. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the importance of building up the characters and the plot line but there are ways to do it faster and still have the same end result.

Overall Thoughts | Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews

Overall, I would highly recommend this book. I loved how the book kept you guessing all the way until the end which makes a great suspense novel. I also loved the characters in this book. Not only did I love Drue, but I also loved all of the supporting characters… even the estranged father and step-mother.

I really hope you guys enjoy Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews as much as I did. It was truly a treat to be able to read this book and it was a book that I had a very difficult time putting down. Although, if you guys have been following for a while, this may not mean much as I have a difficult time putting down a lot of books. But still.

Happy Reading!
